Action taken against anarchic rioters gathering
in front of Region Administration Council’s Office in Dawei
Nay Pyi Taw February 28
After the declaration of a state of emergency on 1 February 2021, it was
announced to the public on 26 February that legal action would be taken against
those violating Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure and those resorting to
various ways to incite or push for the CDM.
Despite the notice, about 1,000 rioters gathered in front of the Taninthayi
Region Administration Council’s Office at about 10 am today chanting slogans,
protesting and causing riots.
Administrative officials and security forces made several requests by
hand speakers that the crowd was to disperse. However, they failed to disperse
and even attempted to break the barricades. So, members of Myanmar Police Force
dispersed the protesting crowd in accord with the anti-violence procedures and the
law. They dispersed for a while.
Then, about 100 of them turned violent like anarchy and threw stones
closely at the security forces, and the MPF members had to fire .12-bolt rubber
bullets inevitably to disperse them.
Four who were on the frontline of the protesters were wounded and died
on the way to hospital. In connection with the incident, a death case has been
opened at the police station concerned for investigation.
Despite its unwillingness to take action against innocent people in accordance
with the existing law, the State Administration Council have issued notices to
enable the public to know about criminal laws and not to fall prey to any
incitement withintent to cause riots and instability.
Therefore, the people are requested to continue their livelihoods in a peaceful
manner without accepting the evil suggestions instigated by NLD politicians.
