Crowd of riotous
protesters lawlessly commit abductions of Myanmar Police Force members on duty

Police Inspector Naing Lin Aung from Mupun police station on duty with
civilian clothes along with a.38 revolver and 18 bullets was abducted by a crowd of protesters near Zaygyo
roundabout in Zaygyo Ward of Mawlamyine in Mon State at about 2.50 pm today.
The abductee was discharging duty at Mupun police station. He telephoned
an official from Mupun police station that he was abducted by a crowd of
protesters at Wegalar cemetery in Sangyi Ward of Mawlamyine. Security force
brought him back at about 5 pm. On their way back, a crowd of rioters violently
started attacks on security forces aboard the vehicle with the use of catapults
and stones at Kyaukmeethway junction. So, security forces performed
counterattacks.
In the event, as rioters took away arm and ammunition taken from Police
Inspector Naing Lin Aung, efforts are being made to take these arm and
ammunition back from the rioters.
Likewise, three police members led by Sub-Police Inspector Kyaw Myint
from the Office of Yangon South District Police Force in Yangon Region this
noon conveyed 20 sound six bangs and instant vermicelli packets to Thanlyin by blue
colour Hilux of the police force.
On arrival at 3rd Yanbye Street in Thakayta Township, a crowd of protesters
stopped the vehicle with the use of sticks and knives. Then, they inspected the
items aboard the vehicle and tied hands of Sub- Police Inspector Kyaw Myint and
three police members behind their back. Those protesters reduced compressed air
from the wheels and abducted those police members to the office of the funeral
service association on 3rd Yanbye Street. A town elder from the ward informed the
authorities about abduction to take back the police members by phone. At about
2.30 pm, as security forces and officials took them back, those police members
were handed over together with seized items.
Moreover, a member of Myanmar Police Force dispersing the crowds of
riotous protesters near Marlar bus-stop on Pyay Road in Kamayut Township was
intentionally hit by light truck in white colour without reason driving from
traffic light of Inya Road to Hledan junction. The car drove away. The police
member was injured in the event and sent to the military hospital in Dagon Township
for receiving medical treatment.
Today, five members of Myanmar Police Force left the assigned area for
Chanmyathazi Township of Mandalay Region by Mark II vehicle. On arrival at the
junction of 63rd and 107th streets, over 200 riotous protesters shouted ‘it was
police car and running away after bumping man’. They threw stones to the
vehicle and blocked the vehicle on the road.
Afterwards, those rioters destroyed the vehicle and abducted police members
in Dhammayon of Myothit Ward. More police members reinforced the scene along
62nd street, found the destroyed vehicle at the corner of 107th street and retook
arms and ammunition from the trunk.
As police members negotiated to free five abductee police members from
the Dhammayon, rioters responded to them with violent attacks. So, police
members performed dispersion of crowds under the prescribed procedures in
accord with the law. In the incident, some police members were injured in violent
attacks of riotous protesters.
In the event, windshields and tyres of Mark II vehicle were destroyed
and body of the vehicle was sprayed in red colour.
This afternoon, riotous protesters violently destroyed CCTV cameras installed
at the corners of 78th and 27th streets, 38th and 78th streets, 35th and 62nd
streets, 38th and 80th streets and Theikpan and 62nd streets for
taking security measures of Mandalay City.
Rioters committed imposing of threats, abduction, threatening lives of
security members who were discharging duties of security and rule of law. The
townships where these incidents happened have imposed Section 144 of Criminal Procedure
not to gather five persons and more. Efforts are being made to arrest those
involved in the riots and security forces are continuously discharging security
duties.
